I am Dr Lee Eu Jin, Orthopaedic Surgeon at Liberty Orthopaedic Clinic based in Mount Elizabeth (Orchard) Hospital Singapore.

I specialise in joint reconstruction and sports surgery for the hip and knee, joint replacement surgery, including total hip replacement, total and partial knee replacement.

I am also able to perform arthroscopic key-hole surgery, arthroscopic ligament reconstruction of the knee, minimally invasive techniques, and computer aided surgery.

I graduated from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ School of Medicine, London (United Kingdom) completed my fellowships in Bern, Switzerland, at the Inselspital (University of Bern), Klinik Sonnenhof and at the MEM Research Centre.

I work closely with the orthopaedic industry in the development of new implants and techniques. I was part of the team in the development of the Dynamic Intraligamental Stabilisation system for anterior cruciate ligament repairs with Mathys European Orthopaedics. This revolutionary technique in cruciate ligament treatment is currently undergoing a Phase 3 evaluation in Europe and I hope to be the first to bring this technique to Asia.

Prior to entering private practice, I was a consultant with Khoo Teck Puat Hospital in Singapore.

I am actively involved in international specialist surgeon training for joint replacement surgery and I lecture as a senior clinical lecturer at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

Doctor, my father is 60 years old. He said his feet hurt when he sits for too long on the floor. Why is that so? How do we treat this?
dr. Lee Eu Jin
replied 1 year ago

Hello and thank you for contacting us. The pain in the feet can be due to a variety of factors. One of the possibilities is what we term "referred pain". This means the source of the pain would be from a site away from the foot or ankle , such as the spine. Please consult an orthopaedic doctor for assessment and evaluation.

I have a problem with pain in my shoulders if I take a bath with cold water. Is this a rheumatic condition?
dr. Lee Eu Jin
replied 1 year ago

Hello and thank you for contacting us. The pain in the shoulders can be of a rheumatological cause or it could be from other more common conditions such as inflammation or injury to the rotator cuff muscles. The rotator cuff muscles are a group of special muscles in the shoulders that can be injured. Please see an orthopaedic doctor for consultation and evaluation.

Doctor, I am 25 years old. Two days ago, when I kicked a ball, I heard a cracking sound from my knee. After that, I felt my feet lost their balance, the cracking sound persisted and now is aching a little. Is this dangerous, Doc?
dr. Lee Eu Jin
replied 1 year ago

good morning. Thank you for contacting us. The cracking of your knee while kicking the ball can result in an injury to the meniscus or ligament in the knee. This can be the reason why you feel a sensation of instability in the affected joint. Do see an orthopaedic surgeon and have an MRI scan done.

hello and good afternoon. Thank you for contacting us. The condition of your cervical spine is due to degeneration. The severity of the condition depends on the involvement of the bones, nerves and the discs in the affected area. If the condition is mild, simple treatment with medications and physiotherapy will suffice.

Hi Doctor. I have been feeling pain in my knee for 4 years. My orthopedic doctor said it is due to a narrowing joint. I have received 7 injections and also had therapy. What is the treatment for this? I am 61 years old.
dr. Lee Eu Jin
replied 1 year ago

hello and good afternoon. The pain in the knee appears to be progressing, despite 7 injections. This would most commonly be due to osteoarthritis of the knee as your orthopaedic doctor had explained. You should go back and have your knee assessed again and discuss with the orthopaedic doctor what other treatment modalities are to be considered.
