Dr Gurpal Singh is a specialist board-accredited, fellowship-trained Orthopaedic surgeon subspecializing in orthopaedic oncology, joint replacement and sports injuries. Dr Singh’s clinical practice consists of bone and soft tissue tumours (benign and malignant), robotic-assisted joint replacement, complex reconstructions of the lower limb, and arthroscopic (key hole) surgeries of the hip and knee including sports injuries and meniscus/ligament reconstruction, in addition to general orthopaedic cases.
Dr Singh graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2004 with a Dean’s list award and gold medal and thereafter went on to pursue higher surgical training in conjunction with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK. He completed his advanced specialist training in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2011 and was awarded the inaugural College of Surgeons Gold Medal for being the top candidate in the FRCSEd(Orth) examination which was held in affiliation with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Scotland. Dr Singh was awarded the Ministry of Health Scholarship for advanced specialty training in 2008 and he moved to Germany for 2 years after qualifying as an orthopaedic surgeon, to work with world leaders in Musculoskeletal Oncology and Hip and Knee Surgery. He completed 2 fellowships in complex joint replacement/hip and knee surgery and musculoskeletal oncology at the Otto-von-Guericke University, Magdeburg, working with the renowned Professor Christoph H. Lohmann, and at University Hospital Muenster working with Professor Georg Gosheger and Professor Jendrik Hardes, both world leaders in the field.
Dr Singh has a special interest in new technologies in joint replacement surgery and pioneered robotic-assisted hip replacement surgery in Singapore, having obtained his robotic-assisted surgery training and certification from Florida, USA. Dr Singh led a team of orthopaedic surgeons to successfully perform the first case of robotic-assisted hip replacement surgery in NUH in December 2016.
