Dr Joy Chan was previously Consultant in the Ophthalmology Service at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and Jurong Medical Centre. She was also Consultant in the Department of Ophthalmology at National University Hospital.
She was awarded the Gold Medal and Book Prize in Ophthalmology in 2003 and awarded the Academic Medicine Development Award in 2013.
She was a Clinical Lecturer and a Master of House at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in National University of Singapore. She served as Faculty on several postgraduate level surgery courses, teaching both cataract surgery as well as oculoplastic surgery.
She has published extensively on a wide range of research topics, which include novel surgical techniques for treating eyelid laxity, novel ophthalmic imaging techniques and rare eye conditions. She has spoken at both local and international conferences on a variety of topics relating to oculoplastic surgery.
During her tenure at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, she helmed the Oculoplastic Service of the hospital and was responsible for managing a wide variety of oculoplastic conditions. She is also a skilled cataract surgeon and has vast experience with a broad range of cataract surgery techniques and new technology such as femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery and computer-assisted toric intraocular lens implantation.
