Dr Kan Yuk Man obtained his medical degree (MB ChB 1993) and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCSed 1998 , FRCSgensurg 2007) in the United Kingdom. His surgical training was at Addenbrookes University Hospital, Cambridge, United Kingdom and he brings along a wealth of experience spanning over 25 years.
Dr Kan is a senior consultant surgeon who has expertise in Upper Gastrointestinal, Bariatric, Surgical Oncology and General Surgery with a focus specifically on minimally invasive / keyhole surgery (MIS). With a fellowship in Brisbane, he gained hands-on experience at a world-renowned centre for minimally invasive oesophagectomy. He is one of a few surgeons in this region who can successful use this keyhole approach for stomach and oesophageal cancers. His scope of practice extends from simple conditions such as skin lumps, haemorrhoids, simple & complex hernia to complex keyhole surgery for colon, oesophageal, stomach, pancreas and liver cancers.
With his vast experience and expertise in hernia repair and gall bladder surgery, he is a regular trainer for surgeons in the region in the keyhole surgical approach for dealing with these conditions.
His other daily practice includes appendicitis, gall stone disease, gastritis, abdominal bloating, colonoscopy for bleeding or a change in bowel habit. He provides a service for early screening with endoscopy (gastroscopy & colonoscopy), which is of vital importance to detect early changes before malignancy occurs. His other area of interest is bariatric surgery for the overweight/obese patient which is now established as a treatment option for those who are diabetic and obese.
He is also regularly invited as a trainer on surgical workshops around the region and has presented numerous talks at medical conferences throughout the world (USA, UK, France, India, Singapore, Australia, Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand). In 2015, he became the Medical Director for the “The Surgical Practice @ Farrer Park” with a busy full time Private Practice.
