Dr Ng Kheng Hong was awarded the SingHealth HMDP award in 2006 as a Fellow to the Royal College of Surgeon, Edinburgh, for further training in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery under Hunterian Professor of Surgery, Professor Michael Li. Upon completion of his fellowship training, he was appointed Consultant Surgeon to the Department of Colorectal Surgery, Singapore General Hospital (SGH).
He has keen interest in Robotic-assisted Surgery and championed the use of robotics in various surgical disciplines with the subsequent formation of SGH tripartite Da Vinci Robotic Assisted Surgery Project in 2008. He was appointed as the Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery in 2009, and has been involved in more than 30 cases of robotic assisted surgery in SGH.
He is one of the pioneers in the use of Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery technique in colorectal surgery. To date, he has performed this advanced laparoscopic in more than 30 cases.
His current appointments include being the Senior Consultant Surgeon at Gleneagles Medical Centre since 2010, the Adjunct Assistant Professor, Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore since 2012, and the Consultant General Surgeon, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital since 2012.
He is the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board, Gleneagles Hospital since 2016 and also a Board Member of the Chapter of General Surgeon, College of Surgeons, Singapore since 2017.
He was previously appointed Chairman of the Medical Quality Assurance Committee at Gleneagles Hospital from 2014 to 2016, and served as Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery, Department of Colorectal Surgery at SGH from 2009 to 2010. He was also the Consultant Surgeon at the Department of Colorectal Surgery in SGH from 2008 to 2010, the Visiting Consultant, Surgical Oncology, at the National Cancer Centre Singapore from 2008 to 2010, the Honorary Surgeon Specialist at the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in Hong Kong in 2007, and the Specialist Registrar at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, University of Birmingham, UK, in 2004.
