Dr Roland Chong graduated from the University of Singapore in 1980. He subsequently pursued further studies in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology in the Department of Medicine 111, Singapore General Hospital, and subsequently in the Department of Gastroenterology, Singapore General Hospital. He also spent a year in the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh as Senior Registrar.
Prior to entering private practice, Dr. Chong was the Deputy Director, and subsequently Director of the Endoscopy Centre at Singapore General Hospital from 1993 to 1996. He was also previously President of the Gastroenterology Society of Singapore; Chairman Chapter of the Gastroenterologist and Physicians’ Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
He has been involved as Chairman/Member of the committee in Ministry of Health Practice Guidelines on the Use of Antibiotics, Hepatitis B and Steroids in Medicine.
He was also a member of the National Advisory Committee on Gastroenterology, and the Specialist Training Committee on Gastroenterology, Specialist Accreditation Board, Ministry of Health.
Dr Chong’s interest is in all aspects of gastroenterology with a particular interest in liver disease. He does the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy as well as ERCPs.
He also maintains a keen interest in general internal medicine as he believes patients come as one and not in parts. Other than being a visiting consultant to the Department of Gastroenterology, SGH, he is also visiting consultant to the Department of Internal Medicine, SGH, where he holds regular tutorials and clinics with the senior residents in Advanced Internal Medicine.
